Government has presented 50 motorbikes to the Bawku West District Assembly in the Upper East Region for distribution to all assembly members in the area.
The bikes are to help the 50 assembly members in the district to effectively monitor their respective electoral areas and also enhance the discharge of their duties.
It followed a 2014 request by the members to the Assembly.
Presenting the motorbikes to the assembly members Monday, District Chief Executive Victoria Ayamba, pleaded with them to make good use of the bikes.
She warned them against any attempt to sell the motorbikes.
Assembly member for Lamboya electoral area, Atamba Simon, said they were grateful to government and the DCE for their efforts made to secure the motorbikes for them.
He pleaded with government to provide them with monthly allowance to be able to fuel their motorbikes and for their upkeep.
For his part, Anyorigi Ben, assembly member for Kusanaba electoral area said with the provision of the motorbikes, they can now run their various electoral areas effectively and has therefore, thanked government for the kind gesture.
