Roland Affail Monney, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has reiterated calls for owners of media organisations to have the welfare of their journalists at heart and ensure they are well paid.
This call comes at a time Ghana joins the rest of the world to celebrate Workers Day today, May 1.
The GJA President raised concerns about how Ghanaian journalists are underpaid and sometimes are not paid by their employers.
“On the occasion of workers’ day we want to call for the need for media owners to pay journalists under them decent salaries,” he said.
He further advised media owners to “work within the confines of the labour laws to ensure that the labour law is respected at all times because we have lots of examples of journalists who are paid low, well below the minimum wage and in the worst case scenario not paid at all.”
