The Greater Accra Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) concluded a one-day Post Election retreat at the Kama Conference Centre today, Friday, April 30, 2021.
The retreat was attended by the Party’s 2020 Running Mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang; National Chairman, Hon Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; Deputy General Secretary, Hon Peter Boamah Otokunor; National Communications Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi; Campaign Manager for 2020 elections, Professor Joshua Alabi; Director of Elections, Hon Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, representations from the Regional Council of Elders, and Regional Campaign team, Regional Parliamentary Caucus, all 14 unsuccessful Member of Parliament aspirants, all 34 Constituency Chairmen, Secretaries, Organizers, representation from the Youth and Women’s Wing, Communication and Zongo Caucus, and other leading members of the Party from the region.
The program, which was under the theme: “Review, Restructure, Re-strategize and Win more seats in 2024”, was purposely organized to analyze the performance of the Party in the last elections in the Region, formulate strategies to restructure the Party at all levels and re-strategize in furtherance of the Party’s reorganizational plans for a resounding victory in the next Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Participants also examined the performance of the Electoral Commission, the use of armed security officers and State sponsored hoodlums to intimidate voters and cause chaos at some collation centres.
Additionally, the leadership of the Party in the region has decided to, as a matter of urgency, address all lingering issues flowing from the last election in the Constituencies to foster unity amongst members and also embark on series of outreach programs in anticipation of directives from the National Executive Committee on a roadmap for reorganization. Constituency Executives were reminded to work with Ward Coordinators and branch executives to begin holding regular meetings and activate steps for mobilizing existing and new members.
The NDC Parliamentary Caucus in the region has been advised to work in unison, share experiences amongst themselves and hold the failed Akufo-Addo government accountable on it promises. Particularly, all 20 MPs have been charged to maintain cordial relationship with their constituents. Leadership took notice of some Parliamentary Candidate hopefuls who have started campaigning four months after elections and have resolved to crack the whip on them in due time.
The Regional leadership of the party is indebted to all constituency and branch Executives, and teeming supporters for their resilence, commitment and courage despite harassments and intimidations from Security officers. Worthy of commendations are our, donors, Party footsoldiers, serial callers and volunteers for their selflessness. Our deepest condolence goes to families of innocent souls killed in Ablekuma Central and Odododiodioo Constituencies, and to the many who were brutalized at polling stations, collations centres and also during post election protests. As the National leadership of the Party has indicated, the souls lost “have attained martyrdom in the NDC and in our collective democratic pursuit, and the NDC will stop at nothing to seek justice for them.”
The leadership of the party urges all members and sympathizers of the party to actively participate in the reorganization program that will soon be rolled out by the party as we continue our quest to rescue Ghana from the clutches of the inept, deceitful and corrupt NPP/Akufo-Addo government and restore her back to path of development, inclusion and progress.
Signed.
Hon. Theophilus Tetteh Chaie
