Alban Sumani Bagbin elected Speaker of 8th Parliament

Former Member of Parliament, Alban Sumani Bagbin has been elected the Speaker for 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Bagbin is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and had represented the Nadowli Kaleo Constituency in the Upper West Region in Parliament seven consecutive times.

He, however, beat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nominee immediate past Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye with three votes in a highly contested election.

Meanwhile, the NPP seemed not happy with the result and have requested for a recount.
