Director General of Tema Ports sacked, Sandra Opoku appointed to act

The Director-General of Tema Ports under the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Edward Kofi Osei has been removed from his post by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Though Mr. Osei was asked to hand over his position to General Manager in charge of legal, Mrs. Sandra Opoku, by March 3, he complied with the directive on Friday, March 1.

A source at the GPHA said Mr. Osei was relieved of his post because he turned 60 years last year. He was said to have sought for an extension of his two-year contract which had ended by the presidency, according to our source, rejected it.

Mr. Osei was appointed by President Akufo-Addo on June 6, 2018, to act as Director General after the substantive Director General, Paul Asare Ansah, had his appointment terminated. He acted for 6 weeks after which Michael Achagwe Luguje was appointed to the position.

Who is Sandra Opoku?

Mrs. Opoku was employed a lawyer in 2003 and admitted into the international maritime law institute in Malta in 2004 where she studied International Maritime Law

She has held various positions at the GPHA including General Manager in charge of Administration and Legal Manager.

Editor’s note:

An earlier version of this story stated Mr. Osei has been relieved of his post as acting Director General instead of Director of Tema Ports, and that Mrs. Opoku has been appointed to take over.

We wish to state that was an error, which has since been corrected. We unreservedly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
