GRA boss, 2 deputies not sacked

The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, and his two deputies are still at post contrary to media reports suggesting they have been kicked out by the government.

Reports emerged Tuesday that Mr Kofi Nti and the two – Kwasi Asante-Gyimah, commissioner in charge of the domestic tax revenue division, and Isaac Crentsil, commissioner in charge of the customs division – have been removed as part of major changes at the GRA.

The reports claimed the three were being “cleared out” by the government because they have not been able to tackle leakages as expected.

However the GRA in a statement issued March 12 described the reports as misleading, claiming it could impact negatively on the moral of staff and revenue mobilization.

“The publication has no factual basis because the Commissioner General and all his Commissioners are still at post and carrying out their normal duties of ensuring the maximization of revenue for national development,” it said.

The statement signed by Kwasi Bobie-Ansah, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Communications and Public Affairs said the reports do “not reflect the situation on the ground” and consequently asked the media to be circumspect in reporting such sensitive issues.

“We wish to emphasise that top management and staff of the Authority are focused on achieving the 2019 revenue target. Therefore, such publications which distract attention should be avoided,” it advised.
