The flagbearer and leader of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has described as inadequate the Electoral Commission’s extension of the ongoing exhibition exercise by two days.
According to the former President, the challenges with the voters’ register are unprecedented, insisting that two days will not be enough to deal with the challenges.
Speaking at a press conference to react to the reported incidence of missing names and duplication in the register, Mr. Mahama said the two days extension vindicates the NDC’s position that the register is fraught with challenges.
He said the EC must engage the political Parties and stakeholders to address issues with the register and re-exhibit it before the December elections.
The EC has extended the voters’ exhibition exercise by two days. This, according to the commission, is aimed at serving the interest of its stakeholders and promote greater participation and inclusion.
By this, the exercise which started last Friday, September 18, would end on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
A statement issued by the EC on Wednesday said, “The Commission is of the view that this extension will allow even more stakeholders to check and verify their voter registration details. This is instrumental for the achievement of a clean and credible Voters Register.
“The last day of the Exhibition Exercise will therefore be Sunday 27th September 2020. We encourage the public to take advantage of the extension by making time to verify their registration details.”
