Ghanaian hip hop and hop life singer Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin a.k.a Joey B sarcastically discredited the most prestigious music award scheme in Ghana, VGMA.
Joey B after winning best new artist in 2014 with his hit song “Tonga” hasn’t won any award at Vodafone Ghana Music Awards again though he has been getting nominations.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Wyse Brain with Amansan Krakye on Radio Central, the “Tonga” hitmaker revealed that his attention has been shifted from VGMA because they will only break your heart.
“It’s nice to have such an award here but me Joey B I’m not that kind of person, anyone who knows me knows I do this from the bottom of my heart, I’m not chasing awards. Ever since I dropped “U x Me” and it couldn’t win the award at VGMA, I realized they will break your heart so I have forgotten about them long time. I’m telling you the truth, I have taken my mind off a long time”, he lamented.
He, therefore, advised them to be fair in giving the awards.
“But I really respect the VGMA and what they are doing. What I want them to do is give the awards or praise where it’s due”, he added.
Joey is nominated again for best hip hop song in this year’s edition and definitely, they will break his heart again.
