Ghanaian passports validity returns to 10yrs, from 5yrs

The Akufo-Addo government has extended the validity of an ordinary Ghanaian passport from 5 years to 10 years and this is effective from March 31, 2019.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in a letter dated February 6, 2019 and addressed to all heads of Missions notified them of the government’s decision.

A letter signed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Habibu Tijani reads;

“MISSIONS ARE HEREBY THAT GOVERNMENT HAS DECIDED TO EXTEND THE VALIDITY OF ORDINARY PASSPORT BOOKLETS ISSUED TO QUALIFIED GHANAIANS APPLICATIONS FROM FIVE TO TEN YEARS (5-10 YEARS) WITH EFFECT FROM 31ST MARCH 2019″,

Despite the extension in the years of the passport validity, the Ministry has maintained the cost of processing a passport at the same fee: GH¢50 for regular processing and GH¢100 for express processing.
