The Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor has charged the Public Affairs Director of parliament, Kate Addo to desist from claims that the current speaker of parliament, Rt. Alban Bagbin was selected but not elected.
The legislator remarks come after the Public Affairs Director of parliament made a statement that “it must be pointed out that the staff at all times during the night remained calm and saw to a peaceful resolution of all the issues, which culminated in the successful selection of the speaker of parliament”.
According to the legal analyst, her comment will not be condone by the opposition National Democratic Congress.
Rockson-Nelson Defeamekpor in his tweet said, “Kate Addo must recognize that the Ndc won’t tolerate certain things any longer.
“It is most scandalous for her to write that the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament was not ELECTED but SELECTED, he added.
It will be recalled that, during the sitting of Parliament to dissolve the 7th parliament, the NDC MPs sat at the majority side in the chamber on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 which erupted chaos in the house.

The Marshall of Parliament, who is in charge of security, was able to lift the ballot box to safety. However, Jinapor, the Yapei-Kusawgu MP-elect kicked the paper-box voting booth, made of cardboard, thereby disassembling it.
The MP for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah also snatched some ballot papers and bolted towards the exit points of the chamber being pursued by some members of the National Democratic Congress hence invasion of military personnel on the floor to restore calm and order.
Mr. Dafeamekpor further noted, “Thank God you’re all revealing yourselves”.
Meanwhile, Rt. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been sworn-in as Speaker of parliament whereas Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been inaugurated as the president of the Ghana’s 4th republic.
