The National Identification Authority (NIA) started the nationwide issuance of the Ghana card on Wednesday, June 2020.
The aim of the nationwide distribution of already printed is to offer Ghanaians who haven’t received their Ghana card would have the opportunity to receive their cards.
This is also to help them meet at least one of the two valid documents required by the Electoral Commission ahead of the compilation of the new voters’ register.
However, the nationwide issuance has recorded very low patronage in some part of the capital, Accra since the exercise begun on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
A visit to some of the issuance centres did not see many people coming to pick up their cards as expected by the media and even the authority.
The officials in charge of the issuance of the Ghana card refused to talk to the media of fear of being sanctioned later by their superiors.
However, the few applicants who had come to pick up their cards angrily revealed that they have been told that their cards are not ready.
They were told that the authority will call them on the phone to direct them on how to get their Ghana cards later.
